Paul_ThompsonJoin filmmaker, Rachel Thompson for a screening of her documentary, Theatre Beyond Walls which tells the incredible story of a man, Paul Thompson, and a theatre company that provoked a cultural movement in Canada. The 1970’s were a time of change and so it seemed fitting that Canadian anglophones, with a reputation as being reserved, would follow. But how? It took alternative theatre companies like Toronto’s Theatre Passe Muraille that came out of Rochdale College, to break down walls set up by a British colonized theatre style and class system. The film documents the revolutionary decade of Thompson’s unique style of collective plays such as The Doukhobors (1970), The Farm Show (1972), I Love You Baby Blue (1976) and Maggie & Pierre (1980). Stunning archival footage bring to life the extraordinary theatrical accomplishments of these trailblazers and luckily they help tell the story with intimate interviews.

Interviews with: Paul Thompson, Michael Ondaatje, Jim Garrard, Eric Peterson, Anne Anglin, Linda Griffiths, Rick Salutin, Graham Greene, Booth Savage, Brenda Darling, Paul Kelman, Joanna McIntryre, Janet Amos, David Fox, Miles Potter, Fina MacDonell, Ted Johns, Alon Nashman, Brad Fraser, Naomi Sniekus and historian Don Rubin.
